Ensuring Safety at NDE: Our Commitment to a Secure Environment

At NDE, we are dedicated to creating a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all students and staff. Our ongoing improvements and partnerships reinforce our commitment to student safety and well-being.

Partnership with Belmont Police

Our collaboration with the Belmont Police Department includes a dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO) who plays an integral role in maintaining the safety and security of our campus. The SRO's key responsibilities include:

  • Campus Safety: Conducting regular patrols and engaging with students and staff to ensure a secure environment.

  • Emergency Preparedness: Administering the Big 5 San Mateo Protocol and assisting in the development of safety procedures and emergency response plans.

  • Law Enforcement: Enforcing laws on campus, monitoring for solicitors, and handling any violations that occur.
  • Event Support: Chaperoning school events, assisting with logistics, and providing parking enforcement and traffic control.

  • Educational Involvement: Offering educational talks on personal safety, law enforcement topics, cybersecurity, and community engagement.

These efforts help foster a safe campus environment while building positive relationships between students, staff, and law enforcement.

Upgraded Security Systems

We have recently enhanced our security infrastructure with the following upgrades:

  • Camera System: Expanded coverage with a state-of-the-art camera system monitors both indoor and outdoor areas, ensuring comprehensive campus security.

  • Buzz-In System: A secure entry system for both elementary and preschool areas requires visitors to be screened and verified before entry.
  • Monarch Check-In System: This digital system streamlines visitor management, including sign-ins for volunteers, contractors, and students, while maintaining detailed logs for security and oversight.

  • Safety and Emergency Training for Faculty/Staff:
    • Big Five Protocol
    • Virtus
    • Mandatory Reporting

Certifications for our Faculty/Staff

Our commitment to student safety extends to food handling and emergency preparedness:

  • Food Handlers Certification: All extended care and preschool teachers hold valid food handlers’ cards, ensuring proper food safety practices.
  • CPR Certification: Every staff member is CPR certified, providing them with life-saving skills to respond effectively in emergencies.

Advanced Digital Safety with GoGuardian

We use GoGuardian to safeguard students online:

  • Real-Time Monitoring: GoGuardian provides visibility into students' internet usage, ensuring they engage with educational content.

  • Beacon Feature: Beacon detects and flags concerning behavior or content, alerting staff to potential risks and allowing for timely intervention.

These digital tools enhance our ability to maintain a secure and supportive learning environment.
