The Notre Dame Upper School English Language Arts classes are designed to increase student comprehension of both reading and writing throughout their 3 years as Upper School students. In addition to the textbook, students read a variety of novels, poetry and short stories.
Class Discussion, provide an open peer environment where students are comfortable presenting their incite and questions to provide and gain additional understanding of the assigned literature.
Group Activities, students must cooperate as a team assigning tasks for each teammate to lead and be responsible for.
Writing Assignments, at the core of ELA are what can easily be described as “building blocks” for the students throughout their course as middle school students. Each year the students are given specific writing assignments to help them grow and gain confidence in the various writing styles needed to function throughout their educational career.
6th Grade: Summary, Narrative, Persuasive, compare/contrast, research* 7th Grade: Summary, narrative, research*, multimedia report, response to Literature 8th Grade: Summary, narrative, research*, persuasive with speech, and a business letter.
