This Just In! NDE’s Very Own Student Newspaper!

By Paige R –Editor, Viking News

In the eight years that I’ve been at NDE, we’ve never had a student-run newspaper. That is, until now. The writing and cartooning clubs are fi-nally bringing one back. Students first through eighth grade can par-ticipate. We will be reporting on everything from sports to current events in our school community. This week, reporters are getting the scoop on the upcoming track season, high school plays and newly re-leased movies. However, our ideas don’t end there. We are planning to write profiles on teachers, technology and study tips.

Although students are the voice behind our newspaper, there are two very important adults helping out. Mrs. Ehlers has been a journalist for 20 years and is now the Communi-cations Manager at Serra High School. Mrs. Murad is an artist who loves to draw. She is heading the cartooning department. We have discovered that cartoons are a great way to creatively express your feel-ings about the day – whether you’re drawing your siblings in the morn-ing or your cat’s adventures while you’re not home.

Both clubs are extremely excited about the newspaper. Ellie H., a former NDE student and current freshman reporter for Notre Dame High School’s newspaper, said that she wishes she could have been a part of a newspaper when she was at the school. This has made us even more eager for the first issue to come out.

“I can’t wait!” said seventh grade reporter Nicole D.

We are confident that with our fantastic reporters, the entire student body will be waiting on the edges of their seats for the next edition.
