"Talk it Out"
Notre Dame Elementary peer counselors are 8th grade students who are trained prior to the start of the school year in the Barbara Porro method of "Talk it Out" conflict resolution practices. The peer counselors can be found on the playground in 
their bright red polo shirts aiding fellow schoolmates in resolving conflicts peacefully by "talking them out" using "I" messages:
I feel____when you________(describe specific behavior)because _______ (how it affects me).
The peer counselor program allows our older students to learn important problem solving techniques and subsequently teach them to our younger students. The program has been promoting school community for several years at NDE.
