High School Admissions
Many NDE families start attending high school open houses when their child is in 6th or 7th grade. Below are links to some of the Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of San Francisco and the Diocese of San Jose.
Starting in 8th grade, students opting to attend a Catholic high school typically go through the following steps:
- Attend open houses to determine which schools interest them
- Reservations may or may not be required
- Shadow students at high schools of their choice
- Pre-registration is required
- Submit high school applications and application fees
- Schedule and attend interviews (if required)
- Register and take the High School Placement Test (HSPT)
Each high school has different schedule deadlines and different requirements. You and your 8th grade child are highly encouraged to check out specific high school websites for important dates/deadlines starting in August/September of their 8th grade year.
Shadow programs require pre-registration with the high school. NDE allows 3 excused absences for shadow purposes. NDE sets up specific dates for 8th graders interested at shadowing Notre Dame High School (Belmont), St. Francis High School and Junipero Serra High School; however, parents still need to contact Notre Dame High School, St. Francis High School and Junipero Serra High School to confirm their child will attend on the pre-arranged shadow dates. Please click here for specific shadow information for the 2010-11 school year.
