Why Art? There are so many reasons, but a good one is because Art teaches critical thinking rather than getting the right answer.
Through Art in Action, a curriculum designed to align with California and National Visual Arts Standards, NDE students study the works of great artists, learn an impressive array of terms and practice art technique. The NDE program is taught by volunteer parent docents who receive training through the Art in Action program. Art in Action currently has over 60 parents involved in art-lesson planning, execution and art shows.
Student artwork is celebrated every day in the classrooms and hallways of Notre Dame Elementary, and student artwork is shown on a monthly basis at the San Carlos Public Library from November through July. As well, there is an annual Spring Show open to the public to celebrate students' creativity and accomplishments. A jury from the Art in Action program visits this show and makes selections for a final summer library show.
Click on the Art in Action logo to learn more about the program. As NDE is a member school, NDE parents can access volunteer training, special adult education opportunities and exclusive tours of local art collections.
Parents are encouraged to visit local art centers and have their students show off their art knowledge!
