Frequently Asked Questions
How does my family apply to NDE?
- Complete an application packet.
- Application packets may be received during a tour, from the office, or online (click here).
- Completed applications and fees may be dropped off at the school office or sent via the USPS.
- Recent copies of standardized test results must be included with student applications in grades 2 thru 7.
- Take the entrance exam on Saturday, March 6th.
What is the application deadline?
- Applications and fee must be received BEFORE the test day on Saturday, March 6th for your child to receive priority registration for the next school year. Potential students submitting applications after that date will be placed on a wait list and be notified if an opening should occur.
What are the steps to successful enrollment?
- Apply.
- Take the entrance exam.
- Meet with the Principal.
- If invited to attend, forward all requested information (standardized test scores if not previously provided, certificate of baptism, emergency forms, and teacher recommendation forms).
- Submit your registration fee.
- Please note: Your child must be born before September 1, 2004 to be eligible for successful enrollment in first grade at NDE.
How do I know if there are any openings in my child’s grade?
- “Intent to re-register” forms are sent to current families in March. We have a much better idea of our numbers by April.
What are your current tuition and fees?
- 2010-2011:
- 1 child: $6,483.00
- 2nd child: $6,096.00
- 3rd child: $5,875.00
- 4th child: $5,100.00
- Book fee: $200 per student
- Registration fee: $575 per family
Are scholarships available?
- Contact the office for information on current scholarships available.
How many students are there in each class?
- We will not accept more than 35 students in each class. Sizes vary by grade.
Do you have after school care?
- Yes, the Newton Center runs our third-party after care program in our library each school day afternoon. Brochures are available.
- In addition to the traditional after care, NDE offers after school clubs including Art Club, Chess Club, Choir, Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, and Math Club.
Do NDE students participate in sports?
- NDE is a member of the PPSL (Peninsula Parish School League). Depending upon class interest, our fourth through eighth graders participate in basketball (boys and girls), baseball (boys), track (boys and girls), and volleyball (girls).
